Are Your Habits Helping You Reach Your Dreams? Part 2

Your habits are crucial components to creating the most positive life possible.  The last post was about creating a vision for your life that helps you determine the habits that will help you achieve your dreams.  A vision is simply an idea about your future life that creates tremendous passion in the present moment.  This vision will become a filter that guides your present thoughts, feelings, habits, behaviors and results.

Vision Statement as a Filter

We all need filters to make sure the thoughts influencing our behaviors are in alignment with our vision.  My coffee maker has a filter to keep my coffee clean from distasteful grounds.  My car has filters to keep the engine free of gunk.  What are the filters that keep my life clean?  Your vision is one of the most important life filters you have.  When you are clear about and confident in your vision, you can use it as a filter to determine if your current actions, thoughts and emotions are leading you to that vision.

Vision Habits

Here are some simple habits to increase your clarity about and confidence in your vision.

  • Write your vision statement each morning and night.
  • Change the wording of your vision statement until you find the most impactful and inspiring statement.
  • Set reminders on your phone, computer, tablet, etc. to alert you to read and repeat your vision statement.
  • Tell someone you trust about your vision so that they can support you as you move towards making it a reality.
  • Spend time visualizing your vision completed.
  • Repeat your vision statement multiple times a day.
  • Celebrate the vision victories.  Don’t let a vision victory pass without acknowledging it, even if it seems small and simple.  Let out a “Yes!” or “Way to go!” with your victory.

The goal in developing vision habits is to internalize, memorize and visualize your vision statement so that everything in your life is immediately and automatically filtered.  In order for these activities to take root as habits you must do them a number of times each day.
