Reframe Complaints

I recently noticed that I slipped into complaining more than I should. I wanted to share with you some of my observations.

1. The more I complain the more I find to complain about. Essentially complaining about things or people has only increased my attention and focus on complaining more.  Complaining takes my focus off the blessings life has to offer and puts it on all the negative junk in the world.  What blessings are you grateful for?

2. Complaining has caused me to give up control for the direction my life is heading. When I complain, I am essentially saying “Complaint you may rule my life. I am powerless to change you, (Complaint) from a negative to a positive.”  You always have power to choose your thoughts, feelings and actions.  What complaints rule your life?  How can you change the way you think, feel and act about these complaints?

3. Complaining has caused me to see only problems not solutions. I went to a seminar on recently, at which the main point was “There is a solution to every problem.”  It is our responsibility to look for solutions to problems.  In every problem there is an abundance of solutions and opportunity to move to a new level.  We need to train our brains to look for the opportunity.  We need to adjust our perspective on the problem to seek out solutions.  This will not be easy but well worth the hard work.  When presented with an opportunity to complain, think of a few solutions for the complaint before doing, saying or thinking anything else.

4.  I become more self absorbed and not open to positively impacting the lives of others.  If I let complaining rule my life, then I make myself unavailable to positively impact others.  My vision is clouded with complaints.  I can only see complaints and problems.  I am not open to seeing ways I can positively impact others.  What ways to do you want to positively impact the lives of others?
